For years, Ram has relied on the Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine as standard equipment for the Ram 1500. For the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, however, this trusted powerhouse is partnered with a 130-kilowatt-hour onboard generator and two Electric Drive Modules (EDM), with the front EDM providing 250 kilowatts and the rear providing 238. These EDMs draw power from a 92-kWh battery pack, carefully designed to incorporate power cell modules in a parallel arrangement. The battery pack is strategically positioned beneath the truck’s floor, ensuring efficient cargo loading with a flat floor space. Enhancing convenience for Ramcharger owners is a rapid recharging option by using a 400-volt DC fast charger capable of recharging the battery for a 50-mile range in just ten minutes. Ram is targeting a best-in-class driving range of 690 miles with this cutting-edge powertrain.
Operation of the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger
As you can imagine, incorporating electric power with a traditional internal combustion engine is fairly complex. The Ramcharger has a unique operation when compared to other trucks that incorporate electric power. This operation begins with mechanical power being generated by the V6 engine and sending it down a sequential path to the onboard generator. Once the mechanical power reaches the generator, it is converted into electrical energy. This energy serves various functions, including recharging the battery while driving. At the driver’s discretion, this power can be used to drive the wheels, conserving the battery’s charge. It can also be used to supplement additional power, driving the wheels by sending power to the EDMs from both the battery and generator, creating optimal power output for higher performance. As a result of this operation, the system operates without direct mechanical linkage from the engine to the wheels. Ram incorporated a front wheel-end disconnect feature that allows free rotation of the front wheels when driving on favorable road conditions, resulting in even greater efficiency. When conditions are less than favorable, power is redistributed to the front wheels, reverting to all-wheel drive. The Ramcharger is also equipped with a locking rear differential accompanying the rear EDM, providing superior traction when road conditions are even more challenging.

Meanwhile, Off-Road 1 raises the ride height for greater ground clearance, while Off-Road 2 lifts the suspension to its highest setting to easily pass over trail obstacles. Conversely, Aero mode will lower the suspension below the Normal setting but above the Enter/Exit mode to optimize on-road aerodynamics for impressive performance. The last Ramcharger feature to enhance its performance is the groundbreaking STLA Frame platform, designed for full-size electric vehicles with a body-on-frame design. This cutting-edge high-strength steel frame, created using advanced materials, strikes a harmonious balance between durability, construction, and stiffness. Meanwhile, the widened middle section makes way for the battery pack, which is protected by the frame rails.
