After a 30-year production hiatus, Stellantis has brought back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer for 2022. Breaking from a utilitarian past, both Wagoneers are upscale luxury SUVs that feature all the high-tech features, driver assists, and safety features available on the finest of today’s vehicles regardless of price.

 

So, with the reintroduction of these two venerable marques, you might be wondering what the differences are. We are here to help and we’ll break down the key differences between the two new Wagoneer models.

 

What are the differences between Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer drivetrains?

Engines – Both of the Wagoneers offer robust V8s but the 2022 Wagoneer has a 5.7-liter V-8 with the eTorque 48-volt mild-hybrid system (392 horsepower). Move up to the 2022 Grand Wagoneer and under the hood is a 6.4-liter V-8 (471 hp).

 

Undercarriage – Both Wagoneers offer the finest suspension and 4×4 drive systems that Stellantis has to offer. This includes three 4×4 systems (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II), the Quadra-Lift air suspension system, and the Selec-Terrain traction management system. The only difference between the two Wagoneers is that that the Grand Wagoneer offers the Quadra-Lift suspension and 4×4 systems as standard equipment.

 

How do the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer differ externally?

Wheels – Both Wagoneers come standard with 20-inch wheels. The Grand Wagoneer models however can be upgraded to 22-inch aluminum wheels in different finishes and these come mated with a 3D wheel cap embossed with the Wagoneer logo.

 

Bodies – Both the 2022 Wagoneer and 2022 Grand Wagoneer are similar in size and offer great styling but the Grand Wagoneer has a somewhat higher-end grille design, chrome trim, copper- tinted windows, and premium LED lighting.

 

What are the differences between Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer inside?

Display Panels – The engineers at Stellantis wanted to make a big statement with LCD video displays in the Grand Wagoneer. While the Wagoneer has two displays, the Grand Wagoneer has seven.  Ready to count? Among those are the driver’s cluster, center infotainment panel, passenger panel, two rear panel for entertainment, and comfort control screens in the first two rows.

 

Materials – There is a sizable price difference between the two Wagoneer models so you would think that the interiors would be a bit different, and they are. Inside the Grand Wagoneer, the leather is a bit more luxurious and the trim is a touch nicer. In addition, the Grand Wagoneer has beautiful American walnut on the dash, doors and center console.

 

Seating – The Wagoneer has Nappa leather-trimmed, 12-way power seats, and the Grand Wagoneer one-ups it with luxurious Palermo leather on the top trims and offers 24-way adjustable front seats.

 

Audio Systems – The base stereo in the Wagoneer is an Alpine-branded system with nine speakers, an audio system that delivers excellent sound. The Grand Wagoneer, however, introduces for the first time a premium McIntosh audio system in an automobile with 950 watts of power and count’em – 23 speakers.
