Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Capability

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe uses Jeep’s first and only plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system. The 4xe system seamlessly integrates gas and electric power with a pair of electric motors powered by a 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack and a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine. The first electric motor, mounted to the front of the engine, replaces the alternator to provide seamless engine stop-start function and enhanced regenerative braking. Meanwhile, the second one is placed inside the transmission to replace the torque converter and provide instantaneous torque to the wheels. This system provides the Grand Cherokee 4xe with 375 horsepower and an impressive 470 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee 4xe accomplishes 56 MPGe, a 470-mile total driving range, and 25 miles of near-silent, all-electric driving.

The 4xe powertrain got its name by combining four-by-four with electric, making its full name four-by-electric. Therefore, all Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models come standard with 4×4. The standard 4×4 system for the Grand Cherokee 4xe is Quadra-Trac I 4×4. Quadra-Trac I 4×4 uses a full-time torque distribution of 48% to the front and 52% to the rear to provide superior on and off-road handling no matter the conditions. Meanwhile, standard on the Overland and Summit 4xe trims is Quadra-Trac II 4×4 system. This adds a two-speed transfer case to intelligently detect changes in road conditions and adjust the torque distribution by sending as much as 100% of available engine torque to the axle that has the most traction. Lastly, Quadra-Drive II 4×4 with a rear electronic limited slip differential is standard on the Trailhawk trim. Quadra-Drive II uses a network of sensors to detect a loss of traction at the earliest possible moment and redistribute up to 100% of torque to the axle – or single rear wheel – that has the most torque. All Grand Cherokee 4xe models come with Selec-Terrain traction management system featuring Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud modes. The Selec-Terrain system makes adjustments to torque distribution, throttle position, transmission shift points, and more to best handle the selected terrain.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe is designed with off-roading in mind. The Trailhawk 4xe uses Quadra-Drive II 4×4. Its two-speed transfer case provides a 4-Low mode to provide better crawling control at low speeds. Meanwhile, the rear electronic limited-slip differential allows up to 100% of torque to be sent to a single rear wheel to counteract slippage. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe also uses an electronically disconnecting front sway bar. At the push of a button, this feature allows drivers to unlink the front stabilizer bar to provide greater articulation, or how far up and down the wheels can go. This makes it easier for the vehicle to pass over rugged terrain. Also aiding in this effort is Jeep’s Quadra-Lift air suspension system, providing up to 10.9 inches of ground clearance and up to 24 inches of water fording capability. Other standard features include Electric Blue tow hooks, all-terrain tires, an anti-glare hood decal, high-strength steel skid plates, and much more.
