The entire automotive industry as a whole is rapidly chasing an electric future. Jeep is joining that pursuit with Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 long-term strategic plan. In 2021, Jeep introduced electric power to the lineup for the first time with the 4xe plug-in hybrid system. The Jeep 4xe lineup has painted a vivid picture of what’s to come for the Jeep brand. To expand on that picture, Jeep hosted Jeep 4xe Day to reveal their plan to further the pursuit of electric vehicles. Please continue reading below to learn more about Jeep’s EV plans!

What is the Jeep 4xe?

Introduced in 2021, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe was the first-ever plug-in hybrid Jeep. The 2022 model year brought the 4xe system to the Grand Cherokee. These two models use a turbocharged internal combustion engine, a pair of electrical motors, and a rechargeable battery pack. This setup gives the 4xe models incredible performance and capability while also offering surprising fuel efficiency. As stated at Jeep 4xe Day, the legendary brand has a goal of offering the 4xe system for the entire lineup by the 2025 model year. Jeep made a couple more announcements at Jeep 4xe Day. These are the first-ever all-electric Jeeps; the Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S. Below, you can learn more about these two all-electric vehicles.

What is the Jeep Recon?

The Jeep Recon starts the next generation of the Jeep brand with all-electric power. While capturing the brand’s eighty-plus-year history, it simultaneously boasts a modern appearance. The brand’s history can be seen in the iconic seven-slot grille with round headlights on either side. It also features a removable top, removable doors, and a fold-down windshield, humbly nodding at the legendary Wrangler. The Recon also captures the Wrangler’s spirit with superior off-roading capabilities. Jeep is known globally for its ultra-capable 4×4 systems. Therefore, it’s only right that the tradition is continued with the Jeep Recon. With standard 4×4, the Recon amplifies its off-roading abilities with electric power and earns Jeep’s famed Trail Rated badge. Additionally, it uses e-locker axle technology, giving drivers the ability to have all four wheels move at the same speed to maximize traction and carry momentum over rugged terrain. Other off-roading features include Selec-Terrain, tow hooks, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and more. The reason that the electric power enhances the off-road abilities of the Jeep Recon is because of the instantaneous torque. As with any EV, torque is immediately available, as there is no need to build up engine RPMs because electrons are always flowing. With the transfer case shifted into 4-Low, this immediate power provides excellent control while crawling at low speeds. While Jeep was covering the Recon’s range at Jeep 4xe Day, it was stated that the Recon could traverse California’s intimidating Rubicon Trail and still have enough range to get back to town to recharge.

What is the Wagoneer S?

The Wagoneer was reintroduced in 2022 for the first time since 1991 to reclaim its title of the gold standard of the premium SUV. Just like the original models, the new Wagoneer lineup offers world-class comfort, technology, and capability. As Jeep’s luxury extension looks to the future, electric power is set to take the lineup’s capability and performance to exciting new heights with the Wagoneer S. Speaking of performance, Wagoneer is targeting 600 horsepower and a 0-60 time of just 3.5 seconds! Additionally, engineers are targeting a driving range of 400 miles on a full charge to reduce the driver’s range anxiety. The Wagoneer S features a modernized design, with an LED-illuminated seven-slot grille, slim LED headlights, a small rear wing spoiler, and sharp lines across the exterior. Meanwhile, the Wagoneer S features classic undertones with a swooping roofline and elegant curves. Both the Wagoneer S and Jeep Recon are set to be available beginning in 2024.
